History
Founded by Mutua Kingola, a polio victim since age of 3 years in Nakuru County
I accepted myself as a PWD and moved on. Grew up in a normal school, work places and had lot of empathy on PWDs.
Worked as the C.E.O of PDT Kenya, where my skills on disability were sharpened. Here I interacted with several NGOs on matters disability up to the time I conceptualized the idea of UMMOJA DISABILITY CENTRE
Centre was commissioned by Rev. Gerrald Kimathi of Deliverance Church Githurai 45 in 2018.
Constructed through friends assistance key among them; Rev. Gerrald Kimathi, Amb. Steve Mbugua, Mr. Dickson Mbogo, Mr. Gichomo, Mr. Adam Nyakundi, Nyatetu Gacheche, Madam Asia Mohammed, Mr Wangombe among others.
Started with a rented space, one room, 16 members and a working committee; chaired by Mr. David Thuo.
As at today we have over 2500 members, 18 functional self-help groups.
We have assisted over 200000 PWDs with vital information on disability matters and assistive devices issuance to individuals.
We are stronger today with a good will from the disability community.
